What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is everywhere, all of the time.
- When you realise you’ve driven in the completely wrong direction because you were so engrossed in thought, that you didn’t even notice taking that wrong turn.
- When you’re so engrossed in a film or book that you’re completely oblivious to what’s going on around you.
- Daydreaming “I’m sorry, I was miles away”.
Sound familiar?.. that’s because we are in trance-like states, naturally, several times throughout the day and trance-like states are also associated with states of relaxation.
In fact, hypnosis sometimes feels so normal, you can think that nothing has happened.
The most common descriptions I hear are • a feeling of ‘heaviness/sinking into the chair’ • a feeling of ‘lightness/floating’ • time distortion • ‘tingly’… it’s a little bit like that period between being awake and falling asleep, where you’re conscious but just feel so relaxed, you could move if you wanted or needed to, but you just can’t be bothered…
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy uses this relaxed state to bypass your critical conscious mind (on the left) and gain access to the powerful forces of your unconscious mind (on the right) so it can make some adjustments that will allow you to live a better life.
When you are in this relaxed state, your unconscious is open to suggestion and re-patterning. Your mind has the chance to be clear from all the ‘busyness’ or clutter that we collect and can then help you see more clearly how & where you need those changes and give you the belief & motivation that you can achieve your goals.
You’re fully in control when under hypnosis and you don’t have to take on my suggestions if you don’t want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state at any time.
Hypnosis does not work if you don’t want to be hypnotised.. and please remember that your success is reliant on your commitment , belief and determination to succeed.
- Yes, most people remember everything straight afterwards.
- No, you can’t get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis as you are in control at all times.
- Yes, you can move and speak throughout your session, in fact I often encourage it!
